Hydraulic Quick Coupling Types

Hydraulic Quick Coupling is widely used to connect and disconnect hydraulic lines quickly. There are many different hydraulic quick coupling types in the market, which are used in agriculture, gas, oil, steam systems, etc. Hydraulic couplers are made of carbon steel, stainless steel, or brass material. Thread types have BSPP, BSPT, NPT, METRIC, SAE, UNF, etc. Designed for working pressure to several hundred bar, max working pressure up to 1000 bar; specifications range from 1/8″ to 2″ to meet a wide range of application needs. They are widely used for oil as well as other liquid and gas media. Depending on application we manufacture straight-through, single shut-off, double shut-off quick-release couplings. Available in push-in or screw-to-connect versions according to ISO 7241; ISO 5675, and ISO16028 standards.

ISO 7241 Series

There are many types of hydraulic quick couplings. Including different sizes, different materials of manufacture, working temperature range, working pressure tolerance. There are 2 standards that specify the parameter requirements that hydralic couplers should meet. The hydraulic coupler types are ISO 7241-A, ISO 7241-B. ISO 7241-A is suitable for hydraulic applications for equipment maintenance or operating systems. The joint design is generally a poppet valve or ball shut-off system. Poppet valves and metal bases are used to maintain valve alignment and prevent flow duplication. Connector sleeves and fitting bodies are hardened to prevent damage, and standard end configurations include female and straight threads in NPT or BSPP. The ISO 7241-B standard is for poppet valves and metal-to-metal valve plugs to maintain valve alignment. It is used to prevent traffic duplication. Standard end configurations are NPT or BSPP female threads. It is typically used in applications with a lower life cycle without severe cyclic pressure fluctuations, basically at a steady pressure during the operating cycle. Common applications include mine roof support systems, hydraulic jacks and high pressure fluid transfer.

Benefits of Using Hydraulic Quick Couplings

The original intention of the hydraulic quick connectors is to improve the sealing performance and reduce or eliminate the possibility of fluid leakage. To ensure long-term performance, they can withstand higher pressures, and the devices are made of materials that are difficult to age. Materials include electroless nickel-plated brass, aluminum, 316 stainless steel, fluororesin (PFA/PTFE/PVDF), and silicone and perfluoroelastomer for elastomers.

During the process of disconnecting and connecting the coupler, it is inevitable that air or other debris will enter the fluid system. Some hydraulic couplers are specially designed to keep the shut-off valve fully closed during disconnection and connection, preventing leakage. This feature is essential when the fluid is toxic or extremely expensive.

The vast majority of hydraliuc quick coupler operations are very simple and effective, sometimes requiring only one hand to complete the operation. Some customized products can realize the simultaneous disconnection or connection of multiple lines, which greatly reduces the time you spend in this part. The hydraulic quick coupler greatly improves the production efficiency by extending the uptime of the equipment.

Hydraulic Quick Couplings have a higher pressure drop than regular connectors, and they typically feature self-sealing valves that automatically contain fluid in at least one line when disconnected.

FAQs

A hydraulic quick coupler is a device used to quickly connect and disconnect hydraulic hoses or lines. It typically consists of two halves, one attached to each end of the hoses, with a mechanism to lock them together securely. When connected, hydraulic fluid can flow between the hoses, enabling the operation of hydraulic machinery. To disconnect, the mechanism is released, allowing the halves to separate easily.

Yes, there are various types of hydraulic quick couplers designed to suit different applications and requirements. Common types include flat-face couplers, poppet-style couplers, screw-to-connect couplers, and push-to-connect couplers. Each type has its own unique features and benefits, such as compatibility with specific pressure ranges, ease of use, and resistance to contamination.

The installation method depends on the type of hydraulic quick coupler:

  • Push-to-Connect: This type of coupler typically does not require tools for installation. Simply push the coupler onto the fitting until it locks into place, ensuring a secure connection.
  • Screw-to-Connect: This type requires tools. Align the coupler with the hydraulic line, then use a wrench to tighten it securely to the specified torque. This ensures a leak-proof and stable connection.

Always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific installation requirements.

When selecting a hydraulic quick coupler, consider factors such as the operating pressure and flow rate of your hydraulic system, the type of hydraulic fluid being used, environmental conditions, and compatibility with existing equipment. It’s essential to choose a coupler that meets or exceeds the specifications of your application to ensure reliable performance and safety.

Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure the proper functioning of hydraulic quick couplers and to extend their lifespan. This includes inspecting couplers for signs of wear or damage, cleaning them regularly to prevent contamination, and lubricating moving parts as needed. Additionally, it’s essential to follow manufacturer recommendations for maintenance intervals and procedures to keep your hydraulic system operating smoothly.
